About SeatGrade
SeatGrade is an independent review and buying-advice site about child car seats. Our aim is simple: help you choose a safe, well-suited seat for your child and your car, honestly, without hype.
Why SeatGrade exists
Buying a car seat is more stressful than it should be. The market is full of near-identical seats, confusing labels split across two safety standards, and reviews that read like they were written by the marketing department. For a purchase this important, that is exactly the wrong kind of noise. We started SeatGrade to cut through it, to compare the seats that are genuinely available in the UK and tell you plainly which one suits which family, and where each one falls short.
We believe a good review tells you who a seat isn't for as clearly as who it is. A premium toddler seat is the wrong buy if you need a from-birth carrier; a full-span all-in-one is a compromise if you want the best seat at each stage. Most of our advice comes down to matching the seat to your child's stage and your particular car, and we would rather say that plainly than steer you towards the most expensive thing on the page.
Who writes our reviews
Our reviews are written by Hannah Whitmore, a child car seat reviewer who has spent years fitting and comparing seats across the major brands. Hannah installs each seat the way a parent would, in real cars, and judges it on the things that matter in everyday use: how clear the install feedback is, how easy the rotation and harness are to use day to day, how long it keeps a child rear-facing, and how well it actually suits different cars. The verdicts you read here come from hands-on use, not spec sheets.
How we stay independent
SeatGrade is funded by affiliate commissions: when you buy a product through one of our links, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That funding lets us keep the site free and keep comparing seats. Crucially, it does not buy a place in our rankings. We are not paid by manufacturers to feature or favour their products, and our order is decided by how the seats perform and who they suit, never by who pays the most. A note on safety
Car seats are safety-critical, so we are careful about what we claim. Our reviews are an informed comparison, not professional fitting advice or a guarantee. We reference the relevant UK safety standards, R129/i-Size and the older R44, and we encourage parents to keep a child rear-facing for as long as they fit. But every car and child is different, no seat is approved for every car, and a seat only protects a child when it is fitted correctly. We will always point you to checking your specific seat against your specific car, and to having a fit checked where you can.
What we cover, and what we don't
We focus narrowly on child car seats because that is where we can be genuinely useful. Rather than spreading ourselves across every nursery product, we go deep on the seats most parents actually buy: infant carriers, rotating all-in-ones and full-span seats, and how they fit, rotate, recline and protect. That focus is deliberate. A site that reviews everything tends to review nothing well, and car seats are a category where small, practical details, the clarity of an install indicator, the smoothness of the rotation, the length of the rear-facing window, make the difference between a seat you trust and one you struggle with.
We don't claim to replace a professional fitting service or your car seat's manual. If a particular seat isn't the right answer for your car or your child's stage, we'll say so plainly rather than push you towards a product just because we can link to it. Honest guidance sometimes means telling you a popular seat is not the one for you.
How we keep our advice current
The car seat market refreshes every year. Models are discontinued, replaced or rebadged, prices swing, and a seat that was the best choice last year can be quietly superseded. We revisit our rankings regularly, update prices and availability, and replace seats that are no longer the best choice for their buyer. When a recommended seat is discontinued, we don't leave a dead end, we point you to the closest current alternative and explain why. Our goal is that whenever you read a recommendation here, it reflects what we'd actually buy today.

Most of our readers are parents facing a stressful, high-stakes purchase for the first or second time, with too much conflicting information and not much spare time. We write for those people first, the parent who wants one clear recommendation and a plain explanation, not a wall of affiliate buttons.
